Get Behind Me Satan turns 20 with this anniversary double LP, pressed on red, black and clear vinyl that suits the band's famous color code.

Released in 2005, the White Stripes' fifth album was a bold left turn. Jack White recorded it on the stairway of his Detroit home in a matter of weeks, and he and Meg White pushed piano, marimba, timpani and mandolin to the front of the mix without losing any of their raw, primal energy or their gift for a stomping riff.

"Blue Orchid" opens with a falsetto howl and a riff so fuzzed-out it sounds ready to set the speakers alight. "My Doorbell" bounces along on a jaunty piano groove that hides its frustration beneath a grin, while "The Denial Twist" sets a jittery rhythm against Jack's knowing vocal. "The Nurse" is the strangest moment of all, a marimba lullaby repeatedly ambushed by crashing drums and guitar.

The album earned the duo a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album and proved they could reinvent themselves while keeping every bit of their edge.

Two decades on, it still sounds restless and gloriously odd, and spread across four sides, this edition is a fitting tribute to one of rock's most original and uncompromising partnerships.
