Get It Together catches The Jackson 5 shedding their bubblegum image for something funkier and harder-hitting, and this edition spins on red vinyl.

Released in 1973, the group's eighth studio album arrived at a turning point. The brothers were growing up, Michael's voice was beginning to deepen, and the music needed to grow with them. Producer Hal Davis answered with tougher grooves and longer, more adventurous arrangements, pointing the group toward the dance floor just as disco was beginning to stir.

The title track opens the record with a tight, insistent funk groove, a confident statement of the new direction. "Dancing Machine" is the album's ace, a sleek, hypnotic cut that became one of the group's signature songs and gave Michael the perfect stage for his famous robot dance. "Hum Along and Dance" stretches out into loose, extended jamming, letting the band's rhythm section show what it could really do.

For Motown collectors, this is the moment The Jackson 5 started sounding like the future rather than the past, and it remains one of the most rewarding albums in their catalog.
