More than four decades of Starfleet music land on blue vinyl courtesy of The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, ten themes that defined Star Trek on screens big and small.

The orchestra has become a trusted name for faithful recordings of classic film and television music, and here it takes on a franchise blessed with some of the finest composers in the business. Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, Alexander Courage and Michael Giacchino all feature, their work spanning the original 1960s series through to the 2009 film reboot.

The first side leans into the big-screen era. Goldsmith's soaring end titles from Star Trek: The Motion Picture open proceedings in full brass splendour, Horner's music for The Wrath of Khan brings swashbuckling drama, and "Bird of Prey Decloaks" from The Search for Spock adds a jolt of menace. Goldsmith's stately First Contact finale closes the side in grand style.

The flip side heads for television and beyond, pairing Giacchino's "Enterprising Young Men" with Courage's original series theme before visiting The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, and signing off with "Where My Heart Will Take Me" from Enterprise.

For Trekkies it is a neat single-disc trip through the franchise's musical DNA, pressed in a suitably space-age shade of blue.
