SYML turns his gaze toward the stars on Infinity, a six-song EP pressed on black ice vinyl with white splatter.

Released in 2024, the record is the work of Brian Fennell, the Issaquah, Washington songwriter whose project name is Welsh for "simple". It came out through FIN. Recordings, the imprint he launched that year with his longtime label Nettwerk. Fennell has described the songs as wandering souls that only found a home once enough of them existed, an ode to the absurdity of human existence shaped by his fascination with apocalyptic themes and an ever-expanding universe. His inspirations were cinematic, from huge, blaring soundscapes to the dusty, open spaces Ennio Morricone painted so well.

Single "Oblivion" captures that balance of doom and wonder, while "Apollo" and "Symmetry" lean into the patient, slow-building atmosphere that has long been his signature, his voice floating high above it all. The closing "Ballad of Infinity" pulls the threads together into a gentle, widescreen finale that feels almost like the end credits of a film.

It is a short record, but a rich one, best heard with the lights low and the volume up. For fans of Where's My Love and The Day My Father Died, this splatter pressing is a striking companion piece.
