Steve Hackett's Genesis Revisited II reopens the golden 1970s Genesis songbook with a cast of prog royalty, presented here as a limited deluxe 4LP reissue on 180-gram vinyl in a gatefold jacket.

Released in 2012 as a sequel to his 1996 Genesis Revisited, it found the former Genesis guitarist and co-producer Roger King reworking songs from Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and Wind & Wuthering, alongside a handful of his own solo pieces. These are loving, full-blooded reinterpretations rather than carbon copies.

The guest list reads like a prog festival bill. Steven Wilson sings "Can-Utility and the Coastliners", Nik Kershaw takes the lead on "The Lamia", Mikael Åkerfeldt is among the voices sharing the epic "Supper's Ready", and John Wetton lends his warmth to "Afterglow". Around them, John Hackett's flute and Rob Townsend's saxophone add colour, while Steve's guitar does what it always did best, soaring, weeping and shimmering through the arrangements with fresh fire.

For Genesis fans, it is a chance to hear the music of that classic era played by the man who helped write it, with modern muscle and obvious affection. Spread across four heavyweight discs, the deluxe set gives these long-form epics the space they deserve.
