The Cloud of Unknowing is Sepultura's final studio statement, a four-song farewell EP on red etched vinyl, paired with a CD copy.

After more than four decades, the Brazilian metal institution chose to stop on its own terms, while the momentum was still strong. The songs came together spontaneously in a Miami studio in early 2025, written without label pressure and recorded at Criteria Studios as the Celebrating Life Through Death farewell tour rolled on. It is also the only studio recording to feature drummer Greyson Nekrutman, who stepped in after Eloy Casagrande's departure.

Andreas Kisser, Derrick Green and Paulo Jr. sound anything but ready for retirement. All Souls Rising and Sacred Books show a band still willing to take risks rather than replay its classic era, and Beyond the Dream was co-written with Sérgio Britto and Tony Bellotto of Brazilian rock veterans Titãs. Closing track The Place stretches toward six minutes, with Green writing about immigrants seeking refuge and a new life, his lyrics moving from disappointment to anger.

Produced by the band with Stanley Soares, their first time working together since A-Lex in 2009, the EP is lean and purposeful at around sixteen minutes.

For anyone who followed Sepultura from the early thrash years, this is the last chapter, written by a band still pushing forward.
