Sepultura's Arise: Rough Mixes offers a different angle on a thrash landmark, presenting producer Scott Burns' original mixes of the 1991 album on 140-gram vinyl.

Arise was recorded at Morrisound Recording in Tampa, the Florida studio behind much of the era's extreme metal, with Burns producing alongside the band. The finished album was then handed to Andy Wallace for the final mix most fans know. Burns' earlier versions surfaced only in Brazil, rushed out around the band's appearance at Rock in Rio in 1991, and they have long been a rare curiosity for collectors.

The nine songs follow the familiar sequence, so the appeal lies in hearing them before the final polish, closer to how they sounded coming off the Morrisound desk. Arise and Dead Embryonic Cells still open the record in a blur of speed and precision, Max Cavalera barking over a riff assault built with Andreas Kisser, while Desperate Cry and Altered State, both past six minutes, show the growing ambition and taste for tension that set the band apart.

Arise marked Sepultura's arrival as a global force, bridging the speed of their earlier work and the groove-heavy direction ahead. Even listeners who know every note of the official version will find this a fascinating alternate view.
