Sinnerman: The Spiritual Nina Simone gathers sixteen performances by the High Priestess of Soul on limited 180-gram orange vinyl, imported from Spain.

The title points to the gospel roots that ran through everything she sang. Classically trained as a pianist before turning to nightclub work, Simone fused jazz, blues, folk and church music into a style that belonged to her alone, and her phrasing could turn a familiar standard into a private confession or a quiet act of defiance.

Sinnerman, her driving take on a traditional spiritual, gives the set its title and its urgency, built on insistent piano and mounting intensity. My Baby Just Cares for Me shows her lighter, swinging side, Work Song brings a gritty blues edge, and Black Is the Color of My True Love's Hair is hushed and devastating in its restraint.
