Jason Mraz's Grandma's Gospel Favorites is a family heirloom finally shared with the world, a warm set of old-time gospel songs he first recorded as a gift for his grandmother.

Back in 2007, Mraz made these recordings as a Christmas present for Mary Helen Mraz-Fowler, the grandmother the family called Nanny Razz, after she asked him for a gospel album. The songs came from her own favourites, alongside titles from the piano bench of his other grandmother, and the sound draws on the classic country, bluegrass and gospel radio of their era. She passed away before it was released, and sharing it was her wish. Its 2026 release honours that.

Turn Your Radio On sets a front-porch tone, bright and neighbourly, and Daddy Sang Bass leans into the joy of a family singalong. His Eye Is on the Sparrow, the 1905 hymn that served as the lead single, gives Mraz's light, agile voice a chance to soar with real tenderness. Old Rugged Cross and It Is No Secret keep things simple and heartfelt, while a couple of originals sit comfortably among the standards.

Nothing here is flashy, and that is the point.

It is a gentle, deeply personal record from an artist best known for sunny pop, and a lovely one to spin on a slow Sunday.
