Hans Zimmer's swashbuckling score for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest makes its first-ever trip to vinyl, spread across two clear LPs that suit music this soaked in seawater.

The 2006 sequel raised the stakes on every front, and Zimmer answered with bigger themes and a gleeful sense of theater. Gore Verbinski's film introduced a squid-faced villain and a monster from the deep, and the score hands each of them a musical identity that sticks around long after the credits roll.

"Jack Sparrow" opens the set with a tipsy, lurching character theme that captures Johnny Depp's swagger in a few unsteady bars. "Davy Jones" begins with the delicate tinkle of a music box before swelling into brooding pipe organ, a perfect portrait of a villain with a broken heart. "The Kraken" is pure low-end menace, all pounding drums and churning brass, and "Wheel of Fortune" scores the film's gloriously ridiculous three-way sword fight with breathless momentum. The album signs off with the Tiësto remix of "He's a Pirate", a club-ready spin on the franchise's signature tune.

For soundtrack collectors, this is a long-overdue addition to the shelf, and the clear pressing makes the whole thing look like it washed up in a bottle. Hoist the colors and drop the needle.
