Diana Krall's When I Look in Your Eyes joins the Verve Acoustic Sounds Series on double vinyl, the lush 1999 album that made the Canadian pianist and singer a household name.

Produced by the legendary Tommy LiPuma, with Johnny Mandel arranging the orchestral numbers, the record pairs her trio intimacy with sumptuous strings. It became a crossover phenomenon, earning a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year, the first jazz record in a quarter-century to make that shortlist, and winning Best Jazz Vocal Album.

Her cool, smoky phrasing is at its best on Cole Porter's "I've Got You Under My Skin," where Mandel's strings swell around her like velvet. Irving Berlin's "Let's Face the Music and Dance" opens the album with sly elegance, and the title track, a Leslie Bricusse ballad, is achingly tender. "Popsicle Toes," the Michael Franks tune, shows off her playful, swinging side with Russell Malone's guitar sparkling alongside.

Her own piano playing is understated but quietly brilliant, full of crisp voicings and perfectly placed space, and Al Schmitt's Grammy-winning engineering captures every breath and brush stroke.
