Three decades after it draped British extreme metal in velvet and grave dirt, Cradle of Filth's Dusk... and Her Embrace rises again as a 30th anniversary edition on silver vinyl, imported from the UK.

Released in 1996 as the band's second album and their first for Music for Nations, it followed a bruising label dispute that saw the original recordings shelved and the songs cut again from scratch at DEP International in Birmingham. Kit Woolven, best known for his work with Thin Lizzy, co-produced with the band and gave the material a lusher, more cinematic finish than their earlier rawness. The horror here is thoroughly British, steeped in Hammer films and the witchcraft lore and hauntings of Suffolk.

The sound is gothic theatre at full gallop: Nick Barker's blasting drums, Stuart Anstis's serpentine guitar runs, Damien Gregori's keyboards and Sarah Jezebel Deva's spectral backing vocals coiled around Dani Filth's shrieks. "Heaven Torn Asunder" bursts out of the crypt, "Funeral in Carpathia" stretches past eight minutes of vampiric melodrama, and "A Gothic Romance (Red Roses for the Devil's Whore)" is pure candlelit menace. Venom's Cronos lends his gravel to "Haunted Shores".

For many fans this is the record where Cradle of Filth truly found their voice, the blueprint for everything that followed. A moonlit silver pressing suits it perfectly.
