Jepsen has long been pop's most devoted craftsperson, the songwriter who followed a worldwide smash with a string of cult-adored records beloved for their perfect choruses. Here she splits the album between daylight and after dark, giving each side of her personality room to run, and the concept lets her stretch further than ever before.

The Day half is looser and more psychedelic, built on live instrumentation. After All and On Wires drift along with warm, sun-dazed melody, and Versailles carries a dreamy sense of grandeur. Then the lights go down. Don't Leave Me on the Dance Floor and Motivation are pure synth-driven dance-pop, glittering and urgent, made for the moment a night out tips into euphoria. A deep bench of producers, including John Hill, CJ Baran and Magnus Lidehäll, keeps both halves sharp.

It is generous without feeling bloated, an album that rewards a slow afternoon as much as a late, loud evening. For a fanbase that has always treated her deep cuts like treasure, the red 2LP is a fitting place to keep both sides of the story.
