Bloc Party's Anatomy of a Brief Romance finds Kele Okereke writing closer to the bone than ever, on a record about love lost and found again.

Released in 2026, the band's seventh studio album arrives four years after Alpha Games and is the first release on the newly formed Contagious label. It is Okereke's most personal set of songs to date, drawn from the painful end of a relationship and the surprise of falling in love all over again, with every lyric pulled straight from lived experience.

Producer Trevor Horn, the studio mastermind behind Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Grace Jones, gives the band's wiry, nervous energy a widescreen sheen. Lead single Coming On Strong sets the pace, songs such as Love Bombs and Rotherhithe sit at the heart of the story, and the closing Eulogy brings it all to a reflective end.

Across fourteen tracks, the guitars still bristle and the rhythms still jolt, but there is a new openness in the way Okereke sings, as if he has decided there is nothing left to hide behind.

It is a bold, emotionally candid turn from a band that helped shape the sound of 2000s indie rock, and proof that they still have plenty to say about the messy business of the heart.
