B.B. King and the Montreux Jazz Festival were a natural match, and The Montreux Years gathers highlights from his visits on a 180-gram double LP.

Drawn from performances between 1982 and 2000 at the Casino Montreux and the Auditorium Stravinski, the set joins the festival's Montreux Years series of archival live releases, with much of the material previously unreleased. It catches King deep into his elder-statesman era, a bandleader with nothing left to prove and every reason to enjoy himself on one of the world's great stages.

The Thrill Is Gone, from a 1990 show, remains the emotional centrepiece, Lucille's stinging notes hanging over that slow minor groove. Rock Me Baby and Caldonia show the showman side, swinging hard with the horns and the crowd, while Stormy Monday, captured in 1995, gives him room to stretch out and talk to the audience through his guitar as much as his voice.

Across two records, the performances flow like one long, generous evening, moving from swaggering shuffles to late-night blues without a wasted moment. It is a warm, lively portrait of the King of the Blues on a stage he returned to again and again, and a strong companion to his classic live albums from the 1960s and early 1970s.
