Wham! were the first Western pop group to play in China, and 10 Days in China: The Live EP finally gives that 1985 visit a record of its own. This UK import vinyl EP is due in 2026.

The trip was part pop tour, part diplomatic experiment. George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley arrived at the height of their fame and played Beijing and Guangzhou to audiences who had barely heard Western pop, let alone seen it performed with this much swagger. The story has been retold for decades, and these recordings finally let you hear how it sounded in the room.

Four songs make the cut, newly mixed and mastered by Chris Porter from the original tapes. Side one opens with a Beijing performance of Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, bright and bouncy, before Everything She Wants arrives from Guangzhou with its taut, nervy groove intact. Side two pairs a breathless Freedom with Careless Whisper, that famous saxophone line drifting through a hall a very long way from home.

What comes through is a band playing tight and a little giddy, with George in superb voice and a crowd still working out how to react.

It is a short record with a big story behind it, and a welcome addition for anyone who collects Wham! seriously.
