The Marshall Tucker Band's 1973 debut, the record that put Spartanburg, South Carolina on the Southern rock map, expands to three 140-gram LPs in blue and yellow.

Signed to Capricorn Records, the band arrived with a sound all their own, blending country, blues and jazz into loose, jam-friendly songs that felt as at home in a honky-tonk as in a concert hall. Toy Caldwell's songwriting and stinging guitar sat at the center, with Doug Gray's rich vocals and Jerry Eubanks's flute and sax giving the group a distinctive edge.

"Can't You See" is the enduring classic, Caldwell's lonesome lead vocal riding over that unforgettable flute line before the band builds to a slow-burning release. "Take the Highway" rolls along on twin-guitar energy, while "Hillbilly Band" and "Ramblin'" show off their easy, down-home swing.

This expanded edition pairs the original album with demos and rare live performances recorded in San Francisco in 1973 and across the UK in 1976, with that live material pressed on vinyl for the first time. Hearing these songs stretch out on stage shows just how much room the band built into them.

It is a warm, generous portrait of a group just finding its stride, and a fine addition to any Southern rock collection.
