Burn Like The Sun is Inspiral Carpets' first studio album in 12 years, arriving on red vinyl as a UK import, and it sounds like a band with plenty still to say.

The Oldham group were one of the defining bands of the Madchester era, all swirling organ and jangling guitars. The years since have brought hard times, including the death of drummer Craig Gill in 2016 and the long hiatus that followed. Now original frontman Stephen Holt leads the line alongside Clint Boon, Graham Lambert, Martyn Walsh and drummer Kevin Clark.

Recorded at Blueprint Studios in Manchester, the eleven songs deal in light and darkness, distance and rebirth, with the cosmic title track setting the tone. Lead single Drag The Bag, produced by Jagz Kooner, captures the band's classic immediacy while sounding thoroughly current.

Across Touching From A Distance Too Far, Wolf At The Door and the rest of the record, the songs grapple with truth, grief, love and perseverance. It is rooted in endurance and forward motion rather than reunion-tour comfort, the work of a group still evolving and still ambitious.

For fans who were there the first time and those discovering them now, this LP is a welcome reminder of why that organ-drenched sound mattered so much.
