Floor Jansen goes heavier and more direct on Hytress, her second solo album, pressed on eco vinyl and housed in a gatefold jacket.

Best known as the voice of Nightwish for fourteen years, Jansen parted ways with the band in 2026, and Hytress arrives as the first statement of a new chapter. It follows her 2023 solo debut Paragon, but trades that record's broader pop palette for down-tuned guitars and modern metal muscle.

The songs are compact and catchy, pop melodies wearing a very heavy jacket, with booming bass, double-kick drums and choruses built to be shouted back. Orchestral sweep is deliberately off the table. "Bring Me Silence," one of the first songs written for the album, pairs layered vocals with a crushing low end, while "Run" set out the new direction early. "Cathedral Of One" and "Haven" round out a twelve-track set made for loud rooms.

That voice is the constant. Jansen can still soar to operatic heights, but here she leans into grit and power, and sounds completely at home doing it.

For fans who followed her from After Forever through Nightwish, Hytress is Floor on her own terms, and the strongest case yet for her as a solo force.
