Britny Fox's self-titled 1988 debut, Philadelphia's loud answer to the Sunset Strip, returns on 180-gram black vinyl as a Holland import.

Fronted by the gravel-voiced Dean Davidson, the band arrived at the height of hair metal with teased hair, big riffs and an unashamed love of seventies glam. Produced by John Jansen, the album went gold in the US, and its blend of street-level swagger and big singalong choruses made it a favourite with fans of the genre's grittier end.

Long Way to Love and Girlschool are the calling cards, all chunky riffs, gang vocals and Davidson's raspy yowl, while Save the Weak shows a moodier, more melodic side. Their stomping cover of Slade's Gudbuy T'Jane wears those seventies glam influences proudly on its sleeve.

Michael Kelly Smith's lead guitar, Billy Childs' bass and Johnny Dee's drums give the record a tight, punchy backbone, with guest keyboards from David Gibbins adding drama to Save the Weak. The whole thing moves with the confidence of a band that knew exactly what it wanted to be.

For anyone who keeps a well-worn denim jacket at the back of the wardrobe, this is a heavyweight pressing of a cult favourite that still knows how to throw a party.
