Arriving in 2022, Whatever The Weather marks a deliberate pivot from James’ rhythm-forward work into a space shaped by improvisation, intuition, and tonal nuance. Conceived during a period of intense creative output, the project unfolds like a series of environmental studies, each track titled by temperature rather than narrative, allowing feeling to lead instead of form. It found a natural home on Ghostly International, a label long associated with expansive, forward-thinking ambient music.

The album opens with the gentle equilibrium of 25°C, its glowing keys and soft hums establishing a fragile calm. From there, James explores extremes, from the stark melancholy of 0°C to the restless momentum of standout cut 17°C, where urban field sounds and jittery percussion flicker in and out like passing traffic storms.
