The Ultimate Incantation Vinyl
The Ultimate Incantation is where Vader announced Poland as a genuine force in death metal, thirty years before most western scenes were paying attention to what was happening behind the old Iron Curtain.
Sixteen albums and three decades later, Vader remain one of the genre's most reliably brutal bands, rarely dipping in quality across a run most metal acts can't sustain for half as long. This 1992 debut on Earache is where that reputation started, and the record's own history says something about how seriously the band took getting it right: an initial session at Sunlight Studio with Thomas Skogsberg didn't satisfy anyone involved, so the album got re-recorded at Rhythm Studios in England with producer Paul Johnson before Earache would put it out. The result fused thrash's velocity with death metal's outright savagery in a combination few bands from anywhere managed this convincingly at the time.
Dark Age opens the record at a relentless sprint, riffs and blast beats refusing to let up. The Crucified Ones carries genuine thrash-derived precision underneath the brutality, and Decapitated Saints is the album's most punishing, technical stretch, proof the speed never came at the expense of actual songwriting.
Thirty years of consistency, and it all started with a band willing to scrap a session that wasn't good enough. That standard never slipped.
