Free at Last is Stretch Arm Strong's final album before an eventual hiatus, thirteen tracks that closed out a run built on genuine positivity in a scene that didn't always reward it.

Formed in Columbia, South Carolina in 1992, this band earned a reputation as true Southern gentlemen among a hardcore community that ran considerably colder, blending melodic hardcore with pop-punk hooks and real breakdowns without ever losing the earnestness that separated them from most of their peers. Often mistaken for a Christian band due to their Solid State Records home, frontman Chris McLane repeatedly clarified that wasn't the case, the positivity here coming from something more personal than doctrine. Recorded in 2005 with James Paul Wisner, this record marked the end of the band's original run before a long hiatus and eventual 2021 return.

The Hardest Part opens the record with the band's signature blend of melodic urgency and real weight. To the End carries the kind of anthemic, crowd-ready chorus that made their live shows so well regarded. Every Last Minute pushes harder into genuine breakdown territory, and A Time for Peace closes the album's proper sequence on the band's most sincere note before the hidden track Martin closes things out entirely.

A hardcore band that made kindness feel just as urgent as aggression. Free at Last remains the clearest statement of exactly that.
