Gems Volume Five digs into the archive for two lost artifacts of underground Christian metal, a 1990 demo tape and a nearly-forgotten single track finally reunited with the band that recorded it, remastered by Rob Colwell and pressed on orange vinyl.

Side A belongs to Sardonyx, a ministry-minded power metal band out of Mount Joy, Pennsylvania who cut this four-song demo in 1990 at the home studio of Thresher's bassist, years before anyone outside the tape-trading underground would have had a chance to hear it. Rebel of Reason is the band's actual origin document, self-released and sold hand to hand, a full 35 years before their newly announced comeback album Anthems of Warfare gives the band a second act.

Scandal opens the demo with straightforward, unpolished power metal urgency. Don't Chase the Rainbow carries real conviction beneath its plainspoken title. Bloodshed leans into the demo's heaviest, most aggressive stretch, and the title track closes things out as the clearest statement of what this band was actually trying to build from the very start.

Side B flips to BloodJustice, a short-lived New Mexico band from 1984 whose only demo somehow earned real magazine coverage before vanishing, plus a long-lost extra track featuring Greg Analla of Seventh Sign, recently rediscovered and included here for the first time.

Two obscure tapes, finally given the pressing neither ever got the first time around.
