Diamonds And Pearls finds Prince & The New Power Generation at his most flamboyant and finely tuned, a technicolor blend of pop excess, streetwise funk, and virtuosic control.
Released in 1991, it captures Prince stepping confidently into a new decade with a new band and a sharpened sense of spectacle.
As the first album credited to The New Power Generation, Diamonds And Pearls marked a pivotal shift in Prince’s career, pairing his singular vision with a full-band dynamism that felt both contemporary and classic. The record exploded into the mainstream, going multi-platinum while reaffirming Prince’s dominance as a songwriter, producer, and bandleader. It is playful without being lightweight, polished without losing its bite.
Sonically, the album swings effortlessly between sleek pop and deep-pocket funk. This newly remastered 2LP edition was cut for the very first time by Prince’s original mastering engineer Bernie Grundman and pressed on 180 gram milky white marble vinyl.
