Summer of Ten + Je T'aime gathers Porches' actual starting point, two 2011 EPs that lived on Bandcamp alone until now, pressed together on hot pink vinyl.

Aaron Maine would go on to sign with Domino and make Pool, the record that turned Porches into a genuine indie name known for laptop-pop precision and genuine emotional restraint. These two EPs predate all of that by years, made when the project was closer to bedroom experimentation than a finished sound, guitar-based and rawer than anything that came after. Hearing the two side by side on one record traces the actual before-picture, the sketches that eventually became something more deliberate.

Rib Cage opens Summer of Ten with the loose, unpolished feel of someone still figuring out what the project even was. Pumpkin Devotion carries real melodic instinct despite the lo-fi execution. Je T'aime, the title track of the second EP, is the clearest hint of the melancholic pop sensibility Maine would later refine, and Winter Over closes the collection on something quieter and more contemplative.

Fourteen years on Bandcamp only, now finally a physical artifact. This is Porches before Porches knew what it wanted to be, and that rawness is exactly the appeal.
