Ouzo Bazooka’s latest album Kapaim (Hebrew for “palms”) lands as a hypnotic feast of grooves, taking the band’s wild surf-psych fusion into a fresh new realm.
Recorded and performed mainly by mastermind Uri Brauner Kinrot in Eilat Studios, Kapaim rolls through nine largely instrumental tracks soaked in cosmic string bends, head-snapping drum patterns, and snake-charming synths. From the tight, funky backbeat of the title track, which invites a collective clap-along to the shimmering psychedelia of “Asia” and the moody trot of “Layla,” each cut is a mini-soundscape that’s both otherworldly and deeply Mediterranean.
Tracks like “Seeds,” “Home,” “Sufa,” and “Soff” showcase thick bass grooves and soaring solos, while “Abbatoda” and “Maagalim” channel gritty Anatolian and folk-inspired textures. It's a kaleidoscopic mix that dances between vintage surf rock, Middle Eastern psych, and spaced-out funk.
This limited-edition gold-and-black splatter vinyl LP (only 500 copies pressed!) is a sonic and visual treasure. Released on Batov Records and mastered by JJ Golden, the album also features subtle guest vocals from Gaya Wajsman, Eden Atiya, and Layla Kinrot, adding delicate textures to the mostly instrumental soundscapes.
If you’ve been digging Ouzo Bazooka’s earlier psych-surf adventures, Kapaim will take you even deeper. Funky, trippy, and groovy in all the right ways, it’s a total mood.
