Let It All Out presents two dozen of Nina Simone's most celebrated singles in chronological order, a soul and R&B-tilted tour through the 45s of the High Priestess of Soul on 2LP.

Compiled by Ace Records, it is not a conventional greatest hits package, though it contains most of her biggest hits. Instead it follows her singles as they were released, drawing from every label she recorded for, including her American pop and R&B chart entries and the UK hits that sometimes outperformed their US showings. In several cases, the definitive version of a song is the one she sings here, whether or not she wrote it.

I Put a Spell on You turns a snarling Screamin' Jay Hawkins original into something darker and more commanding, My Baby Just Cares for Me glides along with irresistible swing, Ain't Got No; I Got Life became her biggest British hit, and To Be Young, Gifted and Black stands as one of the great anthems of its era.

More than twenty years after her passing it still hits hard, a voice that could be tender, furious and funny within a single verse. For newcomers it is a direct route to the heart of her catalogue, and for longtime fans a satisfying, chronological listen.
