This Global Stage Orchestra collection reinterprets Dave Porter's music for Breaking Bad in full orchestral form, pressed on crystal clear vinyl.
Porter's original scoring work for the show was famously minimal and unconventional, built more on texture, dread, and silence than traditional melody, a big part of why the series felt as unsettling as it did across sixteen Emmy wins and five seasons following Walter White's descent from chemistry teacher to meth kingpin. This is an orchestral performance of that material rather than Porter's own studio recordings, giving the themes a fuller, more traditionally cinematic treatment than the show's often sparse, synth-and-texture-driven original score.
The Main Title Theme opens the record with its instantly recognisable, twangy menace rendered in fuller orchestral color. Jane's Demise carries real weight given what that moment meant for the show's entire arc, one of the series' most devastating turns given proper musical gravity here. Hank in Pursuit builds genuine tension through orchestration rather than the original's more minimal approach, and Baby's Coming closes on something quieter and more human amid all the darkness surrounding it.
A different lens on music that originally worked by holding back. This version leans into the drama the show usually left unspoken.
