Fugazi (also known as 7 Songs) is the landmark debut EP from the influential American post-hardcore band, originally released in November 1988. Recorded in June of that year, it stands apart from the rest of Fugazi’s catalog as the only release without guitarist Guy Picciotto on the instrument—here, all guitar work is handled by Ian MacKaye.
The record introduced the world to the band’s powerful blend of punk urgency, rhythmic experimentation, and socially conscious lyricism, setting the tone for their storied career.
Featuring the iconic track “Waiting Room,” famous for its abrupt 22-second drop into silence and relentless ska/reggae-infused groove, the EP also includes “Suggestion,” a standout with its “Meters-meets-Ruts” rhythmic thrust. Originally issued on vinyl and later compiled with the Margin Walker EP for the 13 Songs collection, Fugazi remains a cornerstone of the post-hardcore genre. This pressing delivers the raw, uncompromising sound that made the band a defining force in underground music.
