Live at Rebellion captures The Drowns in full flight at Blackpool's Rebellion Festival, twelve songs of sweaty, fist-pumping streetpunk delivered with zero polish.
Formed in 2017 by punk scene veterans from Seattle and Los Angeles, with roots in bands such as The Briggs, The Shell Corporation, Madcap and Time Again, The Drowns have spent the years since building a reputation on tight songwriting and a busy touring schedule. Rebellion, the UK's great annual punk gathering, is exactly the kind of room where that reputation gets tested, and this recording shows the band passing it with ease.
Black Lung kicks off the night with gritty momentum, Ketamine & Cola barrels through with a rough-edged sing-along chorus, Blacked Out keeps the pressure on, and a late cover of Ballroom Blitz shows the band can wink at glam as hard as they hit.
Live albums live or die on atmosphere, and this one nails the sound of a packed room full of people shouting every word. Quick, raw and gloriously loud, it makes a handy introduction for anyone new to the band and a worthy souvenir for those who were there. Turn it up, crack something cold and let the Blackpool crowd carry you through.
