Dinosaur Jr. returned with a roar on Beyond, an album that proved time apart only sharpened their instincts. Originally released in 2007, this record captures the band reconnecting with their core chemistry while sounding anything but nostalgic, leaning forward instead of looking back.
Beyond marked the first full-length from the original lineup since 1988’s Bug, reuniting J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph after nearly two decades apart. Musically, the album bristles with towering fuzz and melodic resolve. Almost Ready opens the door with swagger and warmth, while Been There All the Time pulses with restless momentum. Pick Me Up rides a classic Mascis solo into the stratosphere, and We’re Not Alone closes things out with reflective calm beneath the distortion. It’s Dinosaur Jr. sounding comfortable in their skin, and surprisingly generous.
