Live at the Country Music Hall of Fame captures the Desert Rose Band's one and only reunion performance, cut across 2LP and pressed on red vinyl.
Chris Hillman had already lived several lifetimes in country rock before founding this band, The Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas, and he built the Desert Rose Band's lineup with the same instinct for pairing serious pedigree with genuine chemistry, Herb Pedersen of the Dillards on harmony vocals, John Jorgenson's guitar, Jaydee Maness on pedal steel. Together they helped keep traditional country harmony alive through the late 1980s while most of Nashville chased something slicker. This show, staged at the Country Music Hall of Fame's CMA Theater in 2022, brought the full lineup back together one final time, and the recording carries the weight of that occasion throughout.
Ashes of Love opens the night reaching straight for the band's harmony-driven strength, voices stacked with the kind of precision only decades of familiarity produces. Desert Rose delivers the title track with the crowd audibly along for every word. Time Between, a Byrds song Hillman brought full circle, connects this whole reunion directly back to where his career actually started, and Runnin' closes the set at full gallop.
Twenty-four tracks, one night, a band that never got to say a proper goodbye until this. Now it's on record permanently.
