Chapterhouse’s “White House Demos” is a dream for shoegaze devotees and collectors alike, a raw, intimate snapshot of a band on the brink of defining a sound. Long before their cult-classic debut Whirlpool dropped, these early recordings capture Chapterhouse experimenting with textures, melodies, and the hazy atmospheres that would make them one of the genre’s cornerstones.
The demos strip away polish and reveal the band’s ideas in their most unfiltered form. Tracks like “Something More” and “Then We’ll Rise” float on swells of guitar reverb, while embryonic versions of other songs offer fascinating glimpses of the shoegaze sound taking shape.
