The Detroit collective had spent a trilogy of records dissecting artistic authenticity in the internet age, ending with 2023's Perfect Saviors, and this follow-up deliberately walks away from that project's careful framework. No premeditated rules this time, just raw expression aimed at Weltschmerz, the specific ache of watching the world's actual reality fail to match anyone's idealized version of it. Tony Wolski has been blunt about the target: a comfortable population that still can't afford food or medicine, scrolling past vacation photos and images of atrocity in the same feed, the dissociation that requires.
Well Made Play opens the record refusing any polite entry point, straight into the confrontation. Purity Drag keeps the genre-blending chaos The Armed have always specialized in, hardcore colliding with something closer to pop before it's done. Broken Mirror, featuring Prostitute, is the record's most unhinged detour, and Heathen closes things with the album's bluntest statement of contempt, no metaphor required.
Genre-defying was always The Armed's whole trick. This time they sound overtly, unmistakably pissed off, and it suits them.
