Queens of the Stone Age went underground for Alive in the Catacombs, a stripped-back live set recorded deep beneath Paris in the city's famous ossuary.

Filmed and recorded in 2024, it was the first concert ever staged in the Catacombs, with the city granting the band rare access to the tunnels. Josh Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita and Jon Theodore were joined by a three-piece string section, and the space itself set the terms: no wall of amps, just reworked songs played with care and a little menace.

Every song was captured in a complete live take, with no overdubs or edits, and producer Mark Rankin keeps the cold stone atmosphere front and centre. Chains and chopsticks stand in for percussion, which tells you plenty about the mood.

The five tracks reach across the catalogue. Running Joke / Paper Machete opens in a hush, Kalopsia drifts like a lullaby slowly coming apart, and Villains of Circumstance swells into something genuinely moving with the strings behind it. I Never Came closes the set with smoky, late-night tension.

Paired with the La Blogothèque film directed by Thomas Rames, this vinyl will make a striking keepsake for anyone who likes their desert rock lit by candles and surrounded by bones.
