Primus took a trip down the Wonka tunnel and came back with something only they could create - Primus & The Chocolate Factory with The Fungi Ensemble. This isn’t just a cover album, it’s a full-on reimagining of the beloved 1971 film’s soundtrack, twisted and stretched into a wonderfully weird Primus world.
Les Claypool’s unmistakable bass thump leads the way through surreal takes on “Pure Imagination,” “I Want It Now,” and of course the delightfully creepy “Candy Man.” With the help of The Fungi Ensemble, these childhood favorites are turned into darkly whimsical jams that feel both nostalgic and entirely new.
This isn’t just a novelty record - it’s Primus paying homage to a cinematic classic while filtering it through their unmistakably off-kilter style. The result is unsettling, hilarious, and completely addictive - basically, everything you’d hope for from a Primus project.
This Gold Edition LP makes it even sweeter (and shinier) - pressed on gorgeous gold vinyl and wrapped in a golden foil jacket that would make Willy Wonka proud.
