Twenty years after it first marched out, My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade returns as a 20th anniversary edition on limited gray vinyl, a UK import pressing of the album that made emo theatrical.

Released in 2006 and produced by Rob Cavallo, the band's third album is a full-blown rock opera built around The Patient, a man dying of cancer whose death arrives in the shape of a parade. Gerard Way and company leaned all the way in, swapping eyeliner-and-hoodie angst for marching-band uniforms, Queen-sized ambition and a bleak sense of humor. It took them from Warped Tour favorites to arena headliners.

The single piano note that opens "Welcome to the Black Parade" has become one of the most recognizable intros of its era, and the song's slow build into a full-throated anthem still lands like a punch. "Teenagers" swaggers on a glam-rock stomp, "Mama" goes full cabaret with a cameo from Liza Minnelli, and "Famous Last Words" closes the story proper with a defiant, fists-up chorus. Ray Toro's guitar heroics and Frank Iero's crunch keep the grandeur grounded in real riffs.

Two decades on, this is the record a generation of misfits still knows by heart. This single LP keeps the original fourteen-song sequence, hidden intermission included, and the gray vinyl suits its funeral-march mood.
