Judas Priest found their wings in 1976, and this 50th Anniversary Remixed & Remastered edition of Sad Wings of Destiny spreads the album across two 180-gram LPs.

Released on the small Gull label after the tentative Rocka Rolla, this was the record where the Birmingham band became the Judas Priest the world would come to know. Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, K.K. Downing, Ian Hill and drummer Alan Moore sharpened blues-rock into something faster, darker and more operatic, laying down a blueprint a generation of heavy metal bands would follow. This new edition is freshly remixed from the original multitrack recordings and restores the band's intended running order.

Victim of Changes remains the crown jewel, an epic of twin-guitar heft and Halford's stratospheric screams, while The Ripper packs Victorian menace into a tight, theatrical burst. Dreamer Deceiver shows how delicate the band could be before the hammer falls, drifting on hushed vocals before the guitars take flight. As a bonus, the set closes with a newly remixed version of the band's 1976 recording of Diamonds and Rust, the Joan Baez song they would soon make their own.

Fifty years on, this is still where the Metal Gods began their ascent. Cut to heavyweight vinyl with a fresh mix, it should hit harder than ever.
