Fifty years after its release, Genesis' Wind & Wuthering is set to return as a limited anniversary pressing on 140 gram green vinyl.

Released in 1976, the band's eighth studio album was the second with Phil Collins as lead singer and the last studio record to feature guitarist Steve Hackett. Recorded at Relight Studios in the Netherlands, the first time the band had made an album outside the UK, and produced by David Hentschel with Genesis, it takes its title and mood from Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights. Two instrumental pieces even borrow their names from the novel's final sentence.

Tony Banks' keyboards dominate the landscape, layering Mellotron, synths and piano into rich, wintry textures. "Eleventh Earl of Mar" opens with a Jacobite tale told at full gallop, "One for the Vine" unfolds over ten minutes as a fable about a reluctant prophet, and Mike Rutherford's "Your Own Special Way" offers a gentle, melodic ballad. "Afterglow" closes the record in a swell of chords that made it a live favourite for years to come.

It's Genesis at a crossroads, still deeply progressive but sharpening their gift for melody. For fans of the Hackett era, this green pressing is a handsome way to mark half a century of an often underrated record.
