Quiet in a World Full of Noise finds Dawn Richard and Spencer Zahn leaning into stillness, crafting a hushed yet emotionally seismic listening experience.
Following the critical glow of their 2022 collaboration Pigments, this 2024 release deepens their shared language - one built on risk, restraint, and radical vulnerability. Zahn’s impressionistic piano sketches, recorded in upstate New York on an unconventionally tuned instrument, became the skeletal framework. Richard, ever the shapeshifter, instinctively filled that space with lyrics shaped by grief, love, and personal upheaval, marking one of the most exposed performances of her career.
Sonically, the album dissolves genre borders with ease. Ambient orchestration, soft brass, and spectral strings from collaborators like Bryan Senti and CJ Camerieri drift around Richard’s unvarnished vocals. Tracks like Life In Numbers, Moments Of Stillness, and Noise Recedes feel suspended in time - minimal yet deeply textured, with every breath and pause carrying weight. There’s a quiet audacity here, where restraint becomes the loudest statement.
What emerges is less a traditional R&B record and more a meditative sound document - intimate, raw, and defiantly patient. This pressing captures an artist unguarded and evolving, offering listeners a rare invitation to sit with discomfort, beauty, and silence - and maybe even find a little peace inside it.
