Chicago X, the band's famous chocolate bar album, comes back as an anniversary edition on clear gold vinyl.

Recorded at Caribou Ranch with producer James William Guercio, it found the band at a crossroads, balancing their jazz-rock roots with a growing gift for polished, radio-friendly songs. The horn section still gets plenty of room to blow, but the melodies are warmer and the arrangements more spacious than ever before. The sleeve, designed to look like a half-unwrapped chocolate bar, became one of the most recognisable covers of the decade.

"If You Leave Me Now" is the obvious centrepiece, a tender Peter Cetera ballad wrapped in strings and acoustic guitar that became one of the defining soft-rock hits of the era. Elsewhere, "Another Rainy Day in New York City" bounces along on a light, breezy rhythm, and "Once or Twice" opens the album with crunchy rock energy, Terry Kath's guitar biting hard against the brass. The band sounds relaxed, confident and fully in command of its craft.

For anyone who grew up with the hit on the radio, the full album reveals a band still stretching out and taking chances. The clear gold pressing makes the whole package look as rich as that famous wrapper.
