Wolf Man Vinyl
Wolf Man is Benjamin Wallfisch scoring a monster movie that treats its horror as personal rather than spectacle, a score that stays as delicate as it is brutal.
Wallfisch had already proven with The Invisible Man that he understood how Leigh Whannell wants his horror to feel, dread built from intimacy rather than jump-scare stings, and this reunion pushes that instinct further. Where the effects-driven creature-feature reboots of recent years have mostly leaned on aggressive sound design, Wallfisch reaches back toward the lush orchestral language of the original 1940s Universal monster films, then lets that classical foundation crack under real emotional weight once the transformation actually begins.
Transformation is the score's structural centrepiece, the exact moment where the orchestration has to carry a man losing himself physically, and it does that work without leaning on cheap shock. Basement and Wolf Fright both sit in the film's most claustrophobic stretches, tension built through sustained dread rather than sudden stings. Wolfman closes the album at its most feral, finally letting the horror the whole score has been building toward fully off the leash.
A monster score that remembers the original creature was always more tragic than terrifying. Wallfisch scores the sadness first and lets the horror follow from it.
