9Million is the self-titled debut from a Toronto shoegaze project that started as one producer's side experiment and grew into a genuine seven-piece band, pressed here on black vinyl.

Matthew Tomasi built his reputation behind the scenes, producing and mixing for artists like Ethel Cain and Nicole Dollanganger while quietly becoming one of his local scene's most trusted engineers. 9Million began as a way to chase sounds and ideas that didn't fit anywhere else in his work, but it stopped being a solo outlet almost immediately, pulling in Ace Mendoza, Danielle Clark, Lia Lepre, Jamie MacNaughton, Noah Aviles-Betel, and Looch Man until it became a genuinely collaborative band. Two EPs and a run of tour dates supporting Glitterer, Angel Du$t, and Ethel Cain herself followed before this debut LP finally arrived, the culmination of a project that outgrew its own premise fast.

Armageddon opens the record at full volume, guitars stacked thick enough to blur the edges the genre depends on. Shine On carries genuine warmth underneath the noise, and Gristle leans hardest into the record's heaviest, most physical stretch. Forever Sweet Sweet Same closes the album on something more tender, the wall of sound finally parting enough to let the melody through clearly.

A side project that became a real band before the debut album even landed. That momentum is all over this record.
