Los Singles gathers everything Parálisis Permanente ever released before Eduardo Benavente's death at twenty cut the band's story short, pressed here on white vinyl.
Benavente led the group through Spain's La Movida Madrileña scene, the explosive cultural moment following the end of Franco's dictatorship, and Parálisis Permanente became one of its darkest, most genuinely gothic voices, closer in spirit to Siouxsie and the Banshees or Bauhaus than anything else coming out of Madrid at the time. The band only managed one proper album, El Acto, before Benavente died in a car accident in May 1983, driven off the road during a storm on the way to a show. He was twenty years old, and this compilation, gathering the band's singles alongside recordings from Spanish television, is essentially the entirety of what they left behind.
Autosuficiencia carries the band's icy, deliberately theatrical delivery at its most confident. Quiero Ser Santa leans into genuinely dark, gothic atmosphere years before that sound had much of a foothold in Spain. Un Día en Texas shows a sharper, more urgent side of the band's sound, and Nacidos Para Dominar closes the collection with the kind of commanding presence that made Benavente's loss feel so genuinely significant to the scene around him.
A career cut brutally short, but complete in exactly the way it needed to be. This is the whole story, told in singles.
