The Spork does exactly what its name promises, a genuine hybrid that pulls tracks from Oscar Jerome's last two albums, The Spoon and The Fork, and reimagines them as something new rather than just repackaging the originals.
Jerome has spent years as a genuine fixture of South London's jazz scene, collaborating with names like Shabaka Hutchings, Moses Boyd, and Yussef Dayes while quietly developing his own songwriting voice into something that owes as much to John Martyn and Joni Mitchell as it does to Prince and early Santana. Where The Fork was the first record he produced entirely himself, built around a genuine reckoning with his own identity, this EP takes that same recent material and puts it through fresh arrangements, guitar-led interpretations that feel less like remixes and more like the songs finding a second life.
Easier arrives here in a version that leans into a more spacious, unhurried groove than its original. The Spoon stretches out past five minutes, giving the melody room to breathe that the original arrangement didn't necessarily allow. The Fork carries the same reckoning at its core, reframed through a different rhythmic feel, and Sweet Isolation closes the EP as its most extended, atmospheric reinterpretation.
Seven tracks that treat a back catalogue as something still alive and worth revisiting, rather than a finished chapter.
