Olivia Chaney's debut, The Longest River, celebrates its 10th anniversary with a limited-edition reissue, and for the first time it arrives on vinyl.

Originally released in 2015, the album was recorded at the legendary RAK Studios in London and co-produced with Leo Abrahams, guitarist, film composer and Brian Eno collaborator. Veteran engineer Jerry Boys, whose credits include Buena Vista Social Club and Sandy Denny, captured the sessions, with Chaney's longtime collaborators Oliver Coates, Jordan Hunt and Leo Taylor alongside her.

Her remarkable voice glides through a strikingly beautiful and unusual set that balances originals with an eclectic run of covers. The King's Horses and Swimming in the Longest River are the originals that first earned her acclaim, while the covers range from Henry Purcell's There's Not a Swain to Violeta Parra's La Jardinera. Norwegian jazz and Scottish avant-folk also get a look in.

Chaney has since released Shelter in 2018 and Circus of Desire in 2024, earned a Grammy nomination for The Queen of Hearts with The Decemberists as Offa Rex, and sung on a collaborative album with Kronos Quartet, Natalie Merchant, Rhiannon Giddens and Sam Amidon. This is where it all began.

A debut that rewards close listening, best enjoyed with the lights low and the volume just right.
