Flag: the blurb dates the album to 1958, but Moanin' in the Moonlight was released by Chess in 1959, so I've used 1959.

Howlin' Wolf's Moanin' in the Moonlight roars back as part of the Chess Records 75th Anniversary Series, pressed on 180 gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings.

Born Chester Arthur Bennett, Wolf idolised folk and country singers, but his delivery was too big for a blue yodel, so he turned to howlin' instead. That voice, combined with blistering guitar and harmonica, helped put Chess Records and Chicago blues on everyone's radar. Released in 1959, this was his first long-playing album, gathering a dozen singles recorded over the preceding decade.

Smokestack Lightnin' is a masterclass in hypnotic tension, built around that one rumbling groove and a howl for the ages. Evil slinks and snarls, How Many More Years rolls with restless drive, and Moanin' at Midnight sets the mood from the very first note.

This audiophile reissue is remastered from the original analog tapes and comes in a tip-on gatefold sleeve printed on high-grade board, a package worthy of the sound inside.
