Released in 2021, Big Mess marks Elfman’s first proper solo album in 37 years, arriving after a career-defining run in film composition and his earlier life fronting Oingo Boingo. Written and recorded during the COVID-19 lockdown, the album channels isolation, anxiety, and dark humor into something confrontational and alive. This 2LP white vinyl edition comes pressed on double colored wax and housed in a gatefold jacket, giving the album’s maximalist energy a physical form worthy of its ambition.
