Idols is the sound of YUNGBLUD reaching for something bigger than the mosh pit, a 2025 album that swaps snarl for sweeping, Britpop-sized ambition.

His fourth studio album was conceived as the first half of a larger double project, and he approached it with world-building in mind rather than chasing singles. The songs wrestle with identity and self-worth, and with what masculinity means to him now, and listeners at home responded in force, sending it to No. 1 on the UK albums chart.

Produced by Matt Schwartz, with additional production from Bob Bradley, and recorded in Leeds, the record wears its influences proudly. You can hear the swagger of Oasis and the widescreen ache of the Verve, with a little Bowie-style theatre for good measure. Hello Heaven, Hello opens with a nine-minute statement of intent that builds and breaks like a stadium encore, Lovesick Lullaby is a rush of chant-along energy, and Zombie lands as a big-hearted anthem built for lighters in the air. Across the record, his voice moves from a rasp to a croon without losing its bite.

It is a bold, unguarded statement from an artist determined to be taken seriously as a rock songwriter. On standard black vinyl it plays best from the first needle drop to the final fade.
